Early sa/nskk dagger with ‘signature only’ erased rohm blade 0710189192 whatspp - Vredenburg

EARLY SA/NSKK DAGGER WITH ‘SIGNATURE ONLY’ ERASED ROHM BLADEThis dagger represents a real piece of history. It started life in 1934 as a SA dagger authorised and presented by Ernst Rohm to his trusted followers. The reverse of these SA blades were etched with an additional motto ‘In cordial friendship Ernst Rohm’. There were approximately 100,000 given out to the early followers all over Germany. Rohm was then accused by Hitler of planning treason and was murdered by Hitlers security forces. After this all reference and mentioning Rohm was ordered destroyed. The daggers were supposed to have the reverse motto removed, but some members got away with the bare minimum and just removed the Rohm signature by grinding or scratching it off. This daggers owner was obviously then part of the NSKK, the motorised/transport division of the SA. To distinguish the daggers, it was ordered that the scabbards were to be painted black. (NSKK uniforms were black). This scabbard has been hand painted black around 1934/1935 when the NSKK was officially separated from the SA. Over the years the paint has gradually come off, showing the original brown anodised surface underneath. The dagger has nice nickel crossguards and scabbard fittings. The nice dark wood grip is perfect and has a nickel eagle and perfect SA button. The lower crossguard has NO Gau mark stamp to the reverse. Very unusual, but I’ve seen this before very occasionally, and only on Rohm daggers. These seem to be daggers given out personally by Rohm and were never issued via the district Gau marking scheme. Dagger has never been cleaned, has very ‘yellow’ nickel patina and looks to have never been apart. The scabbard has been described already. The blade is in Exc ++condition. A full SA Alles fur Deutschland motto on the obverse with background colour in the letters and super polished blade surface. The reverse is in the same condition. Rohm dedication is deep and clear. The signature has been hand erased by deep fine scratches. It has also removed over 50% of the makers mark, but enough is left to see it was made by E.P& S. (Ernst Pack &Sonne). There is an original short hanger and clip.
